7 Best Office Plants
You may think that office plants are great because they provide aesthetic value and they do, however they also clean your breathing air like no ones business. Except for mine, because you know, cleaning business and everything. NASA even made a chart to teach us mere mortals which plants remove which toxins from our air, I’ll include a link to this amazingness as the end of the post.
1. Peace Lily and Chrysanthemum (Best for clean air)
I realize that I have 2 instead of just one plant but these 2 (toxic to animals, I might add) indoor plants detoxify your air better than any other plants. They are the ONLY 2 plants listed on NASA for cleaning; benzene, formaldehyde, trichloroethylene, xylene, toluene and ammonia. I only know two of the terms myself however big words that mean toxic things are formidable, am I right?! 🙂
2. Spider Plant (Wins the prize for being the easiest to grow!)
I have killed several plants in my plant career and the only ones to stick by me through it all has been the spider plants. Knowing what I know about air quality it would be safe to assume that I bought all of the plants on the NASA list and managed to have all of them die except a precious three. The spider plants stood by me faithfully THE ENTIRE TIME. A little water and a little sunshine and a little neglect go a long way with your spider plant. So if you’re new to the game, start here. (Don’t start with succulents and definitely do not buy 6 of them)
3. Bamboo (Most Magical)
What makes the bamboo magical, aside from the fact that IT NEVER dies. It has legend status as a wish grantor, protector, creativity enhancer and good luck. You should probably buy 3 and give 2 (for karmas sake) and triple the effects of this Jedi master.
4. Basil (Antidepressant)
Sure we all love going to work everyday but once in a while there are other places that we would rather spend our 9 hours. Say hello to my little office plant friend, Basil (he says hi back) and then rip off one of his leaves and add it to your lunch, it can be used as a mood booster, a cruel and unusual way to get your kicks if you ask me, however this may get you through the winter month blues.
5. Ferns (Best for Dark office spaces)
The great thing about the fern is that it actually LOVES the shade, which is perfect if you are a vampire (*raises hand). Ferns thrive on very little light, if your window is smaller than your ambitions than the fern may be the one for you.
6. Dracaena Marginata (Loves the Light)
‘The Dragon” as I like to call it are fairly easy to grow, provided it has adequate light. Also a great air cleaner.
7. Aloe Vera (Most medicinal)
We could talk about medicinal plants all day long but let us instead focus on the Aloe. The leaves of your new office plant can be used for inflammation and arthritis. I do not know of the exact potion for this, you will have to do a little research on that but it has been noted highly for medicinal purposes, a little organic soil and you have yourself a true friend.
These are the 7 Best Office Plants for different kinds of office spaces and plant skill levels. Do you have a favourite?
